Young Carers: Frequently Asked Questions

Below are various questions from young carers and parents:

Does everyone get to do activities?
show answer

When we receive a referral we come out to visit you and then we ask you about what activities/hobbies/clubs you already attend. Some young carers do lots of activities and some are unable to do any for different reasons, so we try and offer the activities to the children who are not getting out much and are isolated because of their caring responsibilities.

Do I have to pay to come out with Young Carers Bucks?
show answer

Our activities and events are free which can make them very popular. As a charity, we fundraise to get the money to run events and activities, so we need to ensure that attendance is confirmed.

How will I know about upcoming events and communications?
show answer

We send out emails or texts about upcoming events so please make sure you always update us with your correct email address and mobile number. We would also appreciate you letting us know whether you can or cannot attend an event. You can check our website for ‘what’s going on’, We are open Monday- Thursday 9am – 5pm and Friday 9am – 4.30pm if you ever need to give as a call.

Can I bring a friend to young carers activities and events?
show answer

We can only include young carers in our events and activities. If you want to come along to any events or activities and do not know anyone, we will look after you and introduce you to some new friends.

My child does lots of activities so what else can you do to help?
show answer

When we meet with you for the assessment we talk about your child’s needs and the kind of support we offer such as one to one emotional support, offering information about the person’s condition they are caring for, small targeted workshops, signposting to other services and school support and advocacy.
